Jill was a college freshman at a four-year university. This was her first time living away from home. She didn’t know her roommates or anybody in the whole university. Needless to say, she was nervous.
If you are like Jill, there are several things that you can do to prepare for that first day of class as a college freshman. First, arrive several days before school starts. This way, you’ll be able to get settled in your room and unpacked before you have to start worrying about homework.
Go to the bookstore and purchase your textbooks. If you wait until after school starts, the lines will be horrendously long! Make sure you buy school supplies, too, like notebooks, pens, and paper for your printer.
Take time to locate the room where your classes will be held. Jill found the building and the appropriate wing where her first class would be held. But she didn’t find the actual classroom. On the first day of class, she had a hard time finding the room because it ended up being in the basement of the wing. Needless to say she was 15 minutes late. She was embarrassed walking in so late.
Spend time in the student union building. Become familiar where the food court is and where there are areas where you can relax and take a break from studying and going to class.
Check the school’s website for student services that the university offesr. Then, find their physical location on campus. Find the advisement center and where the student employment office is. Knowing where the counseling center is good, too, because this center has great resources on how to study, how to take tests, and how to select a major.
