College is such a fun time in life! It’s a time to explore, to learn new things, and to meet lifelong friends. It can also be a stressful time! Perhaps one of the most stressful times in any college student’s life is when the time comes to choose a major. Choosing a major is not something to be taken lightly. After all, this is what will prepare you for your future career. If you’re ready to choose your major, take a look at these tips.
1. Choose something you’ll enjoy. In order to be happy in school, and in your future career, you need to choose a major that you enjoy. If you don’t like math, don’t choose to be a mathematician.
2. Think about income opportunities. It’s true that some majors will pay out better than others. A business school graduation will likely make more money than an English teacher. But, the money isn’t the only thing that should concern you here. You want to make sure you can support yourself (and pay those student loans) with your future income, without going into a field where you have no interest.
3. Explore job opportunities. You need to also think about the job opportunities that are available. For example, if you choose to be an English major, there are lots of career opportunities. You could be a writer, a teacher, or even go on to law school. Be sure to consider all of the opportunities your major will provide you.
Choosing a major is stressful, but it doesn’t have to overtake your life. Keep these tips in mind when it comes time to choose your major.
